Q: Hi again Marieke! A clear skin is very important for a model. How do you take care of your skin?

I only use biological moisturizers, since my skin easily gets annoyed from chemicals and perfume. I love dr Hauschka and Weleda. To clean my face and remove make-up after shoots I use Bioderma micellair water. Every once in a while I use pure coconut oil as a facemask. Works great for dry skin! You can use it to remove your make-up as well 🙂

Q: Which brands do you prefer for your face?

My favorite skin care brand is definitely Dr. Hauschka. It works really well against redness and annoyed skin after wearing lots of make-up on shoots.

Q: Long flights dehydrate your skin. How do you protect your skin on (long) flights?

I think the most important thing is to drink enough during a flight.

Q: Do you have a tip to avoid getting spots and pimples?

The best tip to avoid getting pimples for me, is to use as little make-up and chemical creams as possible. My skin really got so much better after I started using organic skin care instead of the ‘normal’ brands. Also, leave your skin alone as much as possible. Don’t clean it more than twice a day cause that might irritate and dry out your skin, which could cause pimples.

Q: What’s your best general beauty tip?

Don’t make too much of an effort! Personally, I think a natural look is everyone’s best look, and your skin will be glad to catch a break.

Q: What to do when you have a pimple on that important shooting day?

The only thing that’s ever worked for me when I got a pimple (and believe me: I’ve tried pretty much everything) was benzoylperoxide. You can get it at the pharmacy (without a prescription). Whenever I put this on a pimple it’s gone in no time!

Q: With all those hot irons in our hair, after a few years of modeling, our hair can get quite damaged. How do you take care of your hair?

I always use a Moroccan Oil treatment after washing my hair and my shampoo and conditioner are from Redken. Besides that I don’t really use any products for my hair, I try to leave it alone as much as possible when I’m not working. About a year ago I bought my first Mason Pearson brush, and I never want another brush again! Tangles are so much easier to brush out with it and I lose way less hair than I did with other brushes.

Q: Do you have any favorite spa’s, skin therapists or treatment centers that you can recommend?

I don’t go to skin therapists as much, but when I do I go to Derma Studio in Amsterdam.
