Here’s a healthy avocado-based recipe for raw, vegan, sugar free Nutella; healthy enough for kids’ breakfast, model-proof!

Low nutritional value of Nutella

As you can see on the ingredient list and nutritional values above, the nutritional value of Nutella is low. Nutella consists mainly of sugar (that’s why sugar is listed first on the ingredient list) and then there’s a bit of healthy ingredients like hazelnuts and cacao. Although there are some healthy ingredients in Nutella, this doesn’t make Nutella a responsible product.


Can’t live without Nutella?

Well, I can’t! How do I solve this problem? By making my own healthy answer to Nutella: Notella! 


Notella can be eaten every day; by kids ànd by models!


Nutrient rich answer to Nutella: Notella!

I discovered how to make Notella by accident when I was making my Paleo Snickers Christmas dessert. The top layer tasted just like Nutella, just slightly more bitter, since I used 100% cacao and no milk whatsoever.

Here’s a recipe for avocado based, sugar free, vegan Notella that can be eaten every day for breakfast, both by kids ànd models 😉

  1. 2 ripe, soft Hass avocado's
  2. 2 tbs cacao powder
  3. 6 drops of liquid vanilla stevia or to taste (available in my shop)
  4. 1/2 C halved hazelnuts
  1. Combine the avocado, cacao and stevia in a food processor and blend until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Mix in the hazelnuts.
  3. Et voilá: bon appetit!
  1. Store in a jar in the fridge (or freezer if you want to save a part of the Notella for longer time).

  1. Hi Angela! I was very excited to come across this site yesterday! I’ve been dairy free for over 20 years, as well as very interested in natural health and healing! I just finished making the Notella with a few adjustments. I thought I’d share them, in case anyone else wants to try this way. First, I don’t have a food processor, so I bought pure hazelnut butter (which consists only of ground hazelnuts). I find the taste of Stevia to be similar to aspartame (I know they’re completely different), so I prefer to use whole organic maple syrup as a sweetner (in pretty much everything). I just mashed everything together in a bowl, added a bit more cacao and TA DAA! Thanks so much for having so many great recipes and ideas on your site! I look forward to trying out more!

  2. Does it matter if you use the hazelnuts with or without the crust?

      Claire, not that I know of! I used hazelnuts without their skin. If you soak your nuts, the skin will come off. I like the taste better without the skin, but for as far as I know you can use them with skin as well.

  3. Do you need to bake hazelnuts?

      I didn’t bake them, but if you like, you could roast them in a dry griddle. You can also soak them for better digestion and to get rid of phytic acid, which binds minerals, making it difficult for minerals to be absorbed by the intestines. But hey, as long as you don’t eat large quantities of (hazel)nuts a day, I wouldn’t worry about the latter.

  4. I would have NEVER thought to make this with the avocado, looking forward to trying this – how long shall I plan to allow it to stay fresh in the fridge?

      Hi Rachel!

      I would keep the Notella in a closed jar in the fridge for about 5 days, in the freezer even a couple of months, but I am not an expert on that. Are you a teacher & chef? What would you suggest?
