A while ago I got a very nice gift with pregnancy congratulations from Bio Oil. Bio-Oil! Bio-Oil was on my wish-list for quite a while. Now that I’m pregnant it is especially a product I want to try. After my pregnancy I will continue modeling; Bio-Oil can help me prevent stretch marks.
Bio-Oil has been used by pregnant women to limit and prevent stretch marks since 1987. Bio-Oil, however, has more benefits for your skin; pregnant or not pregnant. Read on for more information!

The gift packaging I got from Bio-Oil …
… with a cute ‘congratulations’ note …
… and a cute stuffed kitty for my baby.
Of course Bio-Oil also gave me a bottle of their wonder oil as well.
So what exactly does this oil do?
According to the “pregnancy stretch marks” information leaflet in the box, Bio-Oil optimizes skin elasticity, so that the skin stays well hydrated and can therefore stretch more easily (an easier stretch prevents/minimizes stretch marks).
Bio-Oil can furthermore be applied to treat dry skin, hyperpigmentation and scars (which also counts for acne scars) and to rejuvenate aged skin.
I got the bottle of Bio-Oil in a gift box, but normally buy the bottle of Bio-Oil comes in a white cardboard box, which is environmental friendly.
The bottle is made of transparant plastic and is closed with a large white cap.
The oil has a light rose-scent. Like grandma’s powder box.
Bio-Oil ingredients are a combination of plant extracts and vitamins in a substance based on oil:

Bio-Oil contains mineral oil. This can be recognized by the ingredient “Paraffinum Liquidum”. Mineral oil closes your pores, which causes pore blockage and breakouts. In order to prevent blockage of pores, Bio-Oil ads PurCellin Oil ™ to its oil.
According to Bio-Oil, PurCellin Oil ™ ensures the oil to absorbed by the skin, without leaving behind a greasy film on the skin. What PurCellin Oil ™ is exactly, or where it is made of, it is not clear to me. However, it is unlikely that this is an animal product, because Bio-Oil is a member of “Beauty Without Cruelty.”
Bio-Oil costs USD 11,99 per 4.2 ounce oil.
To prevent pregnancy stretch marks or striae due to other causes, massage your belly, breasts and other area’s that are about to grow fast twice a day with Bio-Oil.
For application on your face use a drop of oil mixed with your day cream or use as a substitute for your night creme.
The oil is thin, transparent and lubricates easily.
The oil is absorped easily into the skin and does not leave a greasy film.
Sustainability & animal welfare
The packaging of Bio-Oil is recyclable and “in accordance with the principles of sustainable forestry. The production of Bio-Oil does not generate hazardous substances, hazardous waste or waste water.”, says Bio-Oil.
Bio-Oil is a member of “Beauty Without Cruelty.” This is a British company that produces vegan cosmetics. As such, Bio-Oil should be 100% animal-free.
My thoughts on Bio-Oil
+ : soft, pleasent scent, pleasant feel, easy to smear out, quickly absorped by the skin. The oil containst PurCellin Oil™ to prevent clogging of pores. I hear lots of positive experiences with Bio-Oil from young mama’s.
+/-: it is always important to drink enough and eat healthy fats to ensure that your skin is and remains hydrated and supple and remains. I do not believe that Bio-Oil can be used on its own to prevent stretch marks or dehydrated skin; it’s an interaction of nutrition and lubrication.
– : I find the price a bit high. I still find it worth purchasing the product to use during pregnancy because of the many good experiences with the product and the positive properties. And besides: we’re not pregnant every day, ladies!
