Avocados contain many healthy omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin K, C & E, dietary fiber, potassium, beta-sitosterol, zinc, folic acid, vitamin B6 and copper. Especially omega-3 fatty acids, C & E vitamins are great for your skin, providing you with a radiant skin glow, treating flaky skin and preventing premature skin aging. If you are having skin problems, it is wise to add avocados to your diet.
A medicinal super fruit
But avocados do not only have great effects on your appearance; these fruits are linked with decreasing the chances of developing breast cancer. Furthermore, they lower blood pressure, help control heart rate and relieve hypertension, treat anxiety and stress, promote healthy brain function, inflict allergies, relieve headache, lower bad cholesterol, increase muscular strength and metabolism and control water balance. That’s a mouth full!
Spice up your sex life
But the positive effects of avocados don’t stop here; another pleasant side effect of eating avocados is that they are famously known as an aphrodisiac. Besides, due to their high zinc content, they help fight infertility, since zinc is vital in a womans ability to produce healthy eggs. The same counts for men; zinc helps increase sperm count and sperm motility; exactly the reason why Mick Jagger followed a diet high in avocados.
The word “avocado” comes from the Aztec language Nahuatlword “ahuácatl”, which means testicle; a reference to the shape of the fruit.[/box]
Green or black avocado?
There are around 500-1000 types of avocado in the world. The most common types of avocado are the Florida avocado and the Californian a.k.a. Hass avocado. The main difference between the two is that the Florida avocado has less calories, while it’s lower in fat. But since these calories mainly come from monounsaturated fatty acids, you shouldn’t have to worry about the higher caloric value … unless you’ve planned to eat a dozen of the creamy fruit.
Taken this into account, I always choose the Hass avocado. It’s the avocado with the black, somewhat lumpy skin. Also, it is much creamier and tastier anyway.
Here’s a recipe for a quick 4 pm snack:
4 pm avocado snack
- Cut up half a California Hass avocado in cubes
- Add sea salt and pepper
- Sit back to enjoythis tasty, creamy fruit.
It’s as simple as that!
