For 41 weeks and five days I wobbled around with a bump. Or at least: a bump that grew bigger every week.  It’s strange carrying a baby in your belly. I’d be happy to tell you what it felt like for me.

[dropcap]Dear[/dropcap] Jim, by now you are 9.5 weeks old … it seems so recently that I fought against my tears when we first saw your heart beat on the monitor when you where only eight weeks old and your daddy jokingly called you a “clump of cells”. That I proudly showed the waitress at my favorite eatery a plum, to indicate how “big” you already were that moment. That I couldn’t sit straight up, because you took up all the space in my torso. That I woke up at 4 every night, because this was the time you started moving in my belly.

What I didn’t expect during my 41 weeks and 5 days of pregnancy has become a reality: these weeks went by so fast. Above all: I miss my baby bump. Holding my belly, gently stroking it, your reaction when dad came home and ‘played’ with my bump, talking to you and singing you rap songs.

I felt you for the very first time. Very gentle, like a butterfly fluttering through my belly.

As you grew, we were able to feel you better and better. While I drove back home from a modeling job in France I felt you for the very first time. Very gentle, like a butterfly fluttering through my belly. You were 15 weeks old, mom fanatically rapped to a song on the radio, the sun was low in the sky. What a special moment!

You rolled over, curled up and seemed to want to reach out to dad’s face.

From inside the womb you really responded to our touches and voices from about that time on. We sang you rap songs; yes, the dirty ones (shame on us!). Your reaction was priceless: you rolled over, curled up and seemed to want to reach out to dad’s face, which he was holding just above my belly. Such a strong, powerful boy you already were!

Then there were your hiccups that we clearly felt and your heartbeat dad heard when he lay his ear on my baby bump.

Dear baby, I loved carrying you in me!
